Board Elections!
The following people are seeking seats on the UAA Alumni Association Board of Directors. Here are their autobiography’s. All active alumni should soon receive an e-ballot at the e-mail address they registered with. Reminders will also be sent until voting concludes on August 1st.
Randy Bohall
UAA Class of 1981, B.A. Economics, Minor in Mathematics
Currently Senior Consultant at Aerancere Consulting, Bellevue Washington with 23 years of financial analysis and management experience in banking, insurance, telecommunications and internet technology.
Married to Jennifer Nelson for 23 years, raising two sons; Cameron (19) and Grant (17). Hobbies are home remodeling, reading, golf and raising two beagle puppies; Bailey (3) and Ruby (2). Did graduate work in Economics at the University of Arizona and completed my MBA in Technology Management in 2005 at the University of Phoenix.
My interest in the UAA Alumni Association came four years ago when I had the pleasure of working for a UAF graduate. In the midst of trash talking each others hockey/basketball teams, I discovered UAF had an active alumni club in Seattle. Why not UAA? Since then I have been working with UAA staff and local alumni to develop a chapter of the UAAAA in the Pacific Northwest. This in part led to a brief appointment to the Board of Directors to fill a vacancy where I served as Co-Chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee. Our mission was to transition the Association back to a dues paying organization; a plan that is currently in process.
I seek election to the Board of Directors to continue the work of moving the organization to its new member oriented structure; reaching out to build a network of alumni committed to support UAA and each other. I bring to this task over 20 years of professional experience in financial analysis, project development and implementation and personnel management.

Laurie Bruce
1981 Bachelor of Science Business Administration - Marketing
B.S, Business Administration/Marketing, UAA, 1981, followed by a
progressive career in marketing, with the past 22 years concentrated in television sales and station management. Employment: General Sales Manager, KTVA CBS-11.
Life-long Alaskan, married and a mother: husband, Kevin Bruce; daughter, Erin Gallagher; stepson Dein Bruce and grandchildren, Kyrah and Ayden Bruce. Extracurricular passions include gourmet cooking, amateur tomato farming, and travel.
I’m interested in serving on the UAAAA Board of Directors, having worked for the past year as a volunteer on the Marketing and Membership Committee and recognizing the need for membership growth and sustainable support to advance the goals of the Alumni Association. I feel my commitment to and roots within the community plus 27 years in marketing communication and successful management of revenue planning and achievement processes would benefit the Association.

Lorali M. Carter
2007 Master of Public Administration
1997 Bachelor of Arts, Political Science
Attending UAA was extremely rewarding. Not only did I have a terrific time being a Seawolf, but the friends I made at UAA remain my closest companions. As an undergraduate student, I benefited from having wonderful professors who built a strong political science program. Before I graduated, I had already secured a position as a legislative aide with my hometown senator. I went on to earn my master’s degree ten years later and was recruited to the position I hold today. Having my master’s degree has equipped me with the necessary tools to perform management duties, and enabled me to negotiate a higher salary.
I believe that private support of the University helps build a margin of excellence. As a current donor to the UAA Annual Fund, I see the value of a strong Development office and how Board members of the Alumni Association are the best advocates for raising money. As a member of
the Board, I would like to work closely with UAA’s Office of Development staff to raise money for institutional priorities.
Strong programs and extraordinary professors will help entice students to attend Alaska’s greatest university. However, a strong in-state recruiting program is vital and I would like to share my story of how attending UAA can help propel students into successful careers.
I would be honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the UAA Alumni Association and serve the university that has served me so well.

Trevor Fulton
2004 Bachelor of Arts English
As a lifelong Alaskan, I have lived and worked in communities across the state. I was born in Anchorage, raised in Delta Junction, and have since lived in Fairbanks, Valdez, Juneau, and the fine city of Anchorage, which I am proud to now call home. Along the way I earned an Associate’s of Arts from Prince William Sound Community College (Class of 2001) and my Bachelor’s in English from the University of Alaska, Anchorage (Class of 2004).
My work experience is reflective of and as varied as the places I’ve called home. Over the years I’ve been employed as a journeyman construction worker, a teacher of English as a foreign language, a professional sawyer, and a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician for the State of Alaska. But it was my experience with the University that led me to my current job as Policy Aide for Senator Lesil McGuire.
Years of being highly active in student life and in student government – as Student Body President, as Government Relations Director for the Union of Students, and in numerous other student leadership roles – at both PWSCC and UAA introduced me to the world of public policy making and opened up doors of opportunity that eventually led to a series of jobs working for the legislature.
Much of what I would bring to the table as a member of the UAA-AA Board of Directors comes directly from my experiences as a student leader: an understanding of the intricacies, the uniqueness, and the strengths and weaknesses of the University system; knowledge of the public policy process and the importance of funding, accountability, and public perception for the University; and a strong sense of Seawolf pride coupled with a recognition of the importance of the University to the community and to the State at large.
For several years the University was a very important part of my life: It gave me a purpose and a focus, it opened up opportunities, and it got me to where I am today. I see serving on the UAA-AA Board of Directors as a way for me to give back to the University, to contribute to my community, and to open the eyes of others as to the importance of our fine University as a center of learning, culture, and opportunity.

Jack Mander
2003 BA Concentration in Languages, Minor in Economics
Since graduating from UAA in May 2003, I have worked in the financial industry with local credit unions and national investment firms. Currently, my financial advisory position with Waddell & Reed allows me the freedom to serve the community when and where I can. I already participate in the Chamber of Commerce as a member of the Ambassador Committee. My goal is to serve on the Alumni Board and to give back to UAA which gave so much to me then and now. As a returning student, I know the difficulties of trying to fit work, family and academics into one schedule; and I know I can represent the past, present and future alumni.

John Roberson III
Political Science
John Roberson III is the former USUAA/Student body President. John showed an exceptional dedication to UAA serving three years as a member of USUAA. Before his college career, he served nearly five years in the United States Air Force. While enlisted, John traveled to such places as Minot, North Dakota and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He completed his enlistment right here in Alaska, at Elmendorf. John enrolled in the Political Science degree program at UAA because he understood the quality of the instructors. His first experience at UAA was through the orientation program, this is where he learned about student government. John knew that to get the most out of college, he would have to get involved, and did. Two years later, he was elected Student Body President; a month later Governor Sara Palin appointed John to the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education. Now a UAA Alumni, John understands the importance of the Alumni Association and would like to continue to serve this vital community.

I read in the recent Green and Gold Daily that the Alumni Association Board of Directors is looking for “new faces,” and that someone in the field of law would be a plus. As you know, I’m an attorney and part owner of Hughes Pfiffner Gorski Seedorf & Odsen, LLC, am a 1995 graduate of UAA and have been active with the Alumni Association for several years now, reviewing and scoring scholarship applications and participating in other events. I’d like to submit the following information for consideration by the Association.
I spent eleven years in the US Army before choosing to pursue a different path. I returned to Anchorage in 1993 and completed by BA in Political Science at UAA in 1995. I left Alaska to attend Law School, graduating from Mercer University in Georgia in May, 2004, finishing second in my class. I accepted employment with a top firm in Atlanta and practiced there until 2004, ultimately growing too homesick, missing the mountains, and becoming a little too weary of the traffic and congestion, and returned to Anchorage. I took a position with one of the oldest law firms in Alaska in 2004 and in 2006 became one of the 10 owners of the firm. I am 45 years old, married, and have two children. My daughter, Jessica, just graduated from Georgia State in May. My wife, Pamela, and my son, Joshua, both attend UAA.
Why I am interested.
UAA is a vital part of our community, striving not only to provide the highest quality of education at the most reasonable cost to our friends, neighbors and families, but also to provide the community with sports teams, musical and theatric productions, and various other public events that we can all enjoy and take pride in. In essence, the school is a real centerpiece and flag bearer for our city. And our Alumni Association is a vital part of UAA. This organization supports the University through its scholarships, fund raising events, lobbying, recognition lunches and dinners, and similar activities.
I have participated in many of the Alumni Association’s activities and believe that my experience in the business and legal world and my own personal network (whether it be legal, business, Rotary, or what have you) would be of benefit to the organization. My legal experience and position often place me in position to talk with and frequently work with Anchorage’s leaders. My business experience has developed skills that are particularly well suited to the fund raising and management aspects of the Association. My work ethic combined with my pride in and loyalty to my alma mater ensure that the University and the Alumni Association will not suffer due to a lack of effort on the part of its supporters.
At this critical time in the growth and development of our state, our city, and our university, we need supporters who are eager to pick up the mantle from those who have gone before and be zealous advocates. Advocating is what I do and I would be very, very happy to provide that service to my school and lend my skills and experience as a member of the Board of Directors.

Norman J. Wilder, MD, MBA, MACP
2002 Master of Business Administration
I’m in my early 60’s and have lived continuously in Anchorage for 31 years. I’m a proud of the MBA degree from UAA in 2002 and have been a contributor to UAA in time (WWAMI supporter and head of the Internal Medicine Clerkship program in Anchorage) and money (10 year committed contributor with my wife, Kathy). My bio-sketch gives an overview of my activities that is documented in detail in the C-V that I’ve submitted. I believe that my extensive experience, my commitment to education, my documented service, and my willingness to serve are the value that I will bring to the UAA Alumni and the University.
Dr. Wilder is Chief Medical Officer at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska and former President of a 12 member internal medicine clinic and Medical Director of a regional airline. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at U. Washington and is the Anchorage site coordinator for the Internal Medicine Clinical Clerkship Program for which he received a teaching award. As Adjunct Professor at Alaska Pacific University he taught a course on Healthcare Policy and Economics. Dr. Wilder served as Governor of ACP’s Alaska Chapter from 1993 to 1997 and served on their national Credentials Subcommittee and Nominations Committee. He is recipient of the Alaska Chapter Laureate Award. Dr. Wilder was President of the Alaska Thoracic Society. He was Governor of the Washington-Alaska Chapter and subsequently the Alaska Chapter of the ACCP in which he is a Fellow. He is currently Chair of the Council of Governors and sits on the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents of the ACCP. He is also a Fellow of the AASM and sits on their Clinical Practice Review Committee.
